CORNISH SOUVENIR DOLLS MADE IN CORNWALL FROM MID 1950'S TO LATE 1980'S

Once upon a time three London ladies came to a life changing decision and escaped to Shallowpool, Looe in Cornwall and started trading as "Shallowpool Handicrafts" making useful things such as rugs, ties, lampshades (they made many items for Daphne Du Mauriers home - "Ferryside" on the Fowey river).

By the mid 1950's after many years just scraping together a living they decided to make souvenir dolls which they continued until the late 1980's.

Joan Rickarby a former art teacher designed and modelled the small heads and hands. Peggy Pryce formerly an hairdresser was responsible for the dolls wigs and an accomplished needlewoman the dolls clothes. Muriel Fogarty formerly a journalist made the casts, assembled the figures, constructed the tiny accessories and handled the business side. Look at cornishbooty gallery of Shallowpool doll collection.
